Doorways leading off the cloister boast exquisite Renaissance stone reliefs.<\/p>\n<h2>2. The Church &amp; The Monumental High Altarpiece<\/h2>\n<p>The church interior takes your breath away. The soaring sanctuary is dominated by an immense, multi-tiered Mannerist retable carved in gilded wood by Jacobo Florentino and Jer\u00f3nimo Quijano, representing the lives of Christ and Saint Jerome. In front of the high altar kneel the life-sized stone funeral statues of El Gran Capit\u00e1n and his wife Do\u00f1a Mar\u00eda de Figueroa.<\/p>\n<h2>3.
