Dúrcal, in the Lecrín Valley, combines heritage of old roads and trams with routes along the river. To prepare a visit, start with the Puente de Lata and the church of the Immaculate Conception. If you want to add hiking, choose a specific route and check its condition: going down to the river is a different plan from the walk through the town.
How to Get to Dúrcal from Granada, Public Transport & Where to Stay
Puente de Lata: the story of a transferred structure
The municipal tourist portal explains that the metal bridge was originally in Gor, on the Guadix–Baza railway line. The Granada tram company acquired it to save the Dúrcal River. The tram arrived in the municipality in 1924 and operated until 1974.
The article by Antonio Burgos Núñez published in PH magazine of the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage confirms its placement in Dúrcal in 1924 and highlights the technical singularity of its transfer. It is a reference to understand the bridge as an engineering heritage, beyond a panoramic photograph.
To know the Lata Bridge, check the allowed access point, the observation areas and the status of the pass. If you need to avoid steps or travel with a stroller, ask for the route that suits your group.

Other bridges on the Dúrcal River
The municipal description of the bridges differentiates the small bridge popularly known as Roman, whose origin could be medieval, from the stone bridge with seven arches built in the 19th century. The Tin Bridge is another different structure.
Locate each bridge before walking between them. To link them, prepare an itinerary with start, distance, gradient and return, and check the status of the paths and river passes.
Church of the Immaculate Conception
The directory of the Archdiocese of Granada identifies the parish of Dúrcal as Immaculate Conception. That is the name that corresponds to the town temple.
The municipal record of the church places construction work in the 16th century and explains that it preserves the Mudejar armor of the central nave. The building has undergone numerous transformations: the side naves, the tower and the façade belong to later interventions.
The guide of the Archdiocese of Granada publishes for the parish of Dúrcal on 958 780 383 and piconcepciondurcal@archidiocesisgranada.es. Check the opening and visiting conditions inside, and respect religious celebrations.
Hiking and bathing in Urquízar
The municipal route of the Urquízar baths starts from the Parque de la Estación, goes down Calle del Calvario and passes through the surroundings of old laundries and mills. Its file indicates 9 km, about 3 hours, medium difficulty and a gradient of 152 m, in addition to the absence of signage. Prepare a map and return, and check the status of the roads and river passes before leaving.
The route includes descents, ascents and steps over the river. Check the bridges and the route before leaving. The same description distinguishes an extension to a waterfall that requires crossing the riverbed without a bridge: do not automatically add it to the walk. Bring a map, water and appropriate footwear, and adapt the outing to the group and the conditions of the day.
The municipal portal menu marks the Río Dúrcal–Los Bolos route as “under repair.” Consult the City Council about your situation before planning it.
The municipal spring file distinguishes Vacamía or Baño Grande from Urquízar or Baño Chico, located next to the river and separated from each other. Identify the spring you want to reach and check the access and conditions of use of the place before organizing your visit.
How to get there by bus from Granada
The Consortium publishes two lines that pass through Dúrcal. Its tables allow you to select the date and check round trip:
- Line 0360: Granada–Alhendín–Padul–Marchena–Dúrcal–Nigüelas–Talará. The consulted table distinguishes workday, Saturday and Sunday or holiday services.
- Line 0361: Granada–Padul–Marchena–Dúrcal–Nigüelas. The consulted table includes work services.
The itinerary for line 361 includes Paseo del Violón 1 in Granada. The return from Dúrcal picks up Comandante Lázaro 1 and Plaza de España, among other stops. Check the direction, route and stop that correspond to your destination; Also check municipal notices about temporary changes.
The 360 and 361 tables show validity from September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 and identify NEX Continental Holdings, S.L.U. as operator. The Consortium publishes the 955 038 665 of user service. The cards indicate that these lines are not adapted to people with reduced mobility; Check the options for your chosen expedition if you need adapted access.
Municipal information and preparation of the day
The Dúrcal City Council publishes notices of temporary stop changes. It is served at Calle Comandante Lázaro, 48, and provides 958 780 013. Check these notices along with the bus schedule, and ask about trails and access to the heritage when preparing your visit.
If you go by car, calculate the route to the exact point you are going to visit and check the restrictions and marked parking when you arrive. Do not book a mountain route based solely on the driving time to the town.
For a short visit, dedicate the walk to the heritage and organize the meal according to your confirmed return. If you choose the Urquízar route, reserve the time needed for the complete route and its slopes. Don’t assume that the urban walk and the trail can be completed at the same pace.
What to eat in Dúrcal
The municipal gastronomic repertoire includes choto al ajillo, remojón, migas and broad beans with ham. Among the sweets he mentions quince and hornazos, and during Holy Week, pestiños and torrijas. Ask about the menu of the day and the hours of the chosen establishment.
To eat or sleep, confirm address, schedule, price and reservation conditions. If you have dietary needs, check the ingredients and allergens before ordering.
