Hondillo neighborhood: streets, squares and tinaos

The municipal file of Barrio Hondillo describes a set of narrow streets and squares organized around Hondillo or Castejón street. The tinaos and portals, the Colorá square and the niches of some facades stand out.

The main access to Barrio Hondillo is in the Plaza de la Constitución. From there you can walk along Hondillo or Castejón Street and its squares, paying attention to the tinaos, the portals and the niches on the facades.

Pillars and literature

The municipal list of pillars includes, among others, those of Cruces, Carmen/San Sebastián, the Plaza and the Parque del Salado. The texts include several authors: in addition to Federico García Lorca, Manuel Benítez Carrasco and Elena Martín Vivaldi appear, among other references.

You can incorporate them into the urban walk by consulting the municipal map. Bring water for the tour and check the signage of each fountain before drinking.

Water Museum: what account and published schedules

The municipal audio guide in room 1 places the museum next to the Lanjarón river and an irrigation ditch. He explains that the building was used as a factory and, later, as a municipal slaughterhouse. The exhibition relates water to daily life and the history of the spa.

The City Hall page dedicated to the museum publishes an entry fee of 1.50 euros and the telephone number 673 349 471. Their schedule is:

Days Published schedule
Monday and Tuesday Closed.
Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday 10:30–13:00.
Friday and Saturday 10:30–1:30 p.m. and 4:30–7:30 p.m.

For holidays, groups or accessibility needs, check with the museum about opening, last admission and entry conditions before you go.

Lanjarón Castle

The municipal record of the castle describes a quadrangular enclosure with a keep, walls and a cistern space. It is located on a limestone hill to the southwest of the town, between the Barranco del Salado and the Lanjarón River.

Before going up to the castle, check with Tourism about the opening of the site and the status of access. Ask about the slopes, steps and road surface if you are traveling with children or need to adapt the ride to your mobility.

Spa: book the specific experience

The Relais Termal website presents accommodation and services from the Lanjarón Spa. On its thermal area page it publishes two circuits and their conditions:

Circuit Published duration Published price
Aquatherma 50 minutes. 33.50 euros.
Hot Springs at Lanchar 60 minutes; private circuit for two people. 64 euros for two people.

Published prices include VAT. The operator asks to arrange the time in advance and announces service from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. To reserve, use the phones 958 770 137 and 958 770 452 or the email termal.lanjaron@relaistermal.com. Check the rate, places, inclusions and access age of the chosen modality before paying.

The thermal area requires a hat on the circuits and publishes the charge for treatments canceled with less than 24 hours. Review the cancellation policies when booking. For drinking spa water, follow the instructions of the center’s doctor: the operator establishes a schedule and rhythm of consumption prescribed by that professional.

Hiking: choose a token and prepare for the return

The municipal hiking portal offers different information sheets for the castle, the hermitage of San Isidro, the Aceituno–Cecarta irrigation canal, Bordaila–Acequia Nueva and other routes. They are not equivalent excursions: choose the route before deciding how much time to reserve and what equipment to bring.

Check the map, the distance, the gradient and the type of surface of the chosen route. Check if the indicated time includes the return and reserve enough time to return. Tourism can help you choose a tour suitable for the group.

Check the weather, road conditions, possible closures and suitability for the group. An urban route or a token with a low grade does not guarantee physical accessibility or the absence of stairs. For a mountain outing, bring water, adequate equipment and room to return.

A proposal for one day

You can start with Hondillo and the pillars, reserve a part of the day for the Water Museum and leave a break for lunch. Then, add the castle if access suits the group, or a spa circuit when you have the reservation confirmed.

A long route needs another distribution. If you depend on public transportation, prepare your way there and back first and organize your visits around those services.

Tourism, transport and parking

The Tourist Office is at Avenida de Madrid, s/n. Publish the telephone number 958 770 462 and the email turismolanjaron@gmail.com. Check their opening hours and take advantage of the contact to answer questions about the castle, routes and parking.

Check the current itinerary to the town and then access to each resource. By bus, confirm operator, stop and time for the chosen day.

To eat or sleep, check location, opening, price and conditions directly with the establishment. Check the official program for your date if you are looking for the Water Race or another temporary activity.
