Standing gracefully at the foot of Paseo de los Tristes overlooking the Darro River and the Alhambra cliffs, the Casa de las Chirimías is a charming early 17th-century Baroque municipal pavilion. Built in 1609 by the Granada City Council, it was designed specifically as an elevated musical platform where municipal musicians played chirimías (traditional wooden shawms/oboes) and trumpets during public festivals and bullfights held in the square.
1. Architectural Charm
This slender three-story square tower features open arched viewing loggias on its upper floor, traditional wooden shutters, and a hipped ceramic roof. Today, its ground floor houses a municipal information point, while its facade is one of the most photographed architectural elements on Paseo de los Tristes.
