Tucked into the crest of the ancient Alcazaba Cadima in the upper Albaicín (Callejón de las Monjas), the Palacio de Dar al-Horra (The House of the Honest Woman) was the private 15th-century residence of Sultana Aixa al-Horra, the formidable mother of Boabdil, the last Nasrid king of Granada.
1. Pure Nasrid Intimacy
Unlike the monumental scale of the Alhambra palaces, Dar al-Horra preserves the intimate, domestic scale of a royal Moorish noble residence. A central courtyard features a tranquil rectangular water basin surrounded by porticoes with delicate plaster arches, carved wooden ceilings, and painted tile friezes with Arabic inscriptions of praise.
2. The Panoramic Tower
Climb to the upper tower mirador for an exceptional view across the terracotta roofs of the Albaicín, the church bell towers, and the distant olive hills.
