From the street, the stone facade of the Basílica de San Juan de Dios on Calle San Juan de Dios gives little hint of the staggering treasure within. But stepping through its doors is like entering a giant, shimmering jewel box: virtually every square centimeter of the interior is covered in burnished gold leaf, rich polychrome marbles, and masterwork paintings.

1. The Camarín & The Solid Silver Urn
The spiritual climax of the basilica is the Camarín de San Juan de Dios, reached via a private staircase behind the high altar. Here, in an intimate chamber walled in solid gold and mirrors, rests an immense solid silver reliquary urn holding the physical relics and skull of Saint John of God.
