Commanding the entrance to the historic Realejo quarter with its fortress-like stone masonry, the Museo Casa de los Tiros ↗ is a unique 16th-century fortified aristocratic palace. It takes its name from the historic bronze artillery cannons (tiros) that project menacingly from between the stone battlements of its upper tower.
1. The Cuadra Dorada (Golden Room)
The undisputed masterpiece of the palace is the Cuadra Dorada, a magnificent formal reception chamber featuring an extraordinary polychrome carved wooden alfarje ceiling. Look up to admire painted medallions depicting Spanish kings, heroic knights, and legendary figures alongside relief sculptures of the Virtues and Trojan heroes.
2. The Museum of Granada’s Heritage
Today, the palace houses the city’s museum of local history, featuring 19th-century romantic traveler lithographs (including works by David Roberts and Gustave Doré), traditional Granadino ceramics, costumes, and personal relics of local literary figures.
