Spreading out beside the soaring stone buttresses of the Cathedral, Plaza Bib-Rambla (from the Arabic Bāb al-Ramla, ‘Gate of the Sandbanks’) is Granada’s most beloved, animated, and quintessential outdoor square. In Moorish and Christian times, it served as the venue for jousting tournaments, bullfights, municipal markets, and religious celebrations.
1. The Fountain of the Giants (Fuente de los Gigantones)
At the center of the leafy square stands the monumental 17th-century Fuente de las Ninfas o Gigantones, carved from Elvira marble and topped by a statue of Neptune, surrounded by four weeping stone giants.
2. Churros with Chocolate & Flower Stalls
Bib-Rambla is synonymous with the Spanish breakfast ritual. Historic cafes (such as Gran Café Bib-Rambla, founded in 1907) serve piping-hot, crispy artisan churros and porras dipped into cups of rich, melted dark chocolate. Along the pedestrian avenues, colorful wooden kiosks sell fresh carnations, roses, and fragrant potted herbs.
