Jardines del Triunfo in Granada: History, Fountains & Monument to the Virgin 2026

Situated between Avenida de la Constitución and the Hospital Real, the Jardines del Triunfo is a majestic public garden park steeped in dramatic civic history. Once an ancient Arab cemetery during Moorish times and later the execution ground where 19th-century liberal heroine Mariana Pineda was martyred in 1831, the site was transformed in the 1950s into an elegant neoclassical public garden.

1. The Monument to the Immaculate Conception

At the center of the park rises the monumental 17th-century Baroque column of the Triunfo de la Inmaculada, carved in white marble and jasper by master sculptor Alonso de Mena. At night, the monumental fountain features synchronized water jets illuminated in colored lights.

2. A Shaded Refuge near the University

With its wide stone walkways lined with towering date palms, rose parterres, and cypress trees, the park offers a tranquil shaded haven for students, travelers, and families visiting the nearby Puerta de Elvira and San Jerónimo Monastery.
